Food Chase

The project

Green skills and new profiles for food supply chain sustainability

Food Chase – Food Supply-Chain Ecosystems for Sustainability was created to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the European food supply chain, a sector increasingly exposed to challenges related to climate change, food safety, waste, product loss, technological innovation and new consumption habits.

The project starts from the need to improve dialogue among the different actors in the supply chain, who are often divided across production, processing, distribution, training and research, despite operating within a highly interconnected system.

The project includes the creation of Food Supply-Chain Ecosystems for Sustainability, designed to connect organizations, educators, businesses and stakeholders in the food sector, encouraging knowledge exchange and bridging the gap between theory and practice. One of the main activities is the development of the Food Chase Competence Framework, conceived as a European reference for defining skills, innovative curricula and training experiences aimed at reskilling and upskilling workers in the food industry.

Food Chase also aims to define a new professional figure, the From Farm-To-Fork Specialist, capable of making a concrete contribution to reducing the environmental footprint of the food supply chain and promoting more circular and sustainable models. Through research, curriculum design, cooperation among partners and capacity-building activities, the project aims to support the green transition of the food sector, strengthening technical, digital, entrepreneurial and environmental skills.

MAReA participates in the project as a partner, contributing its experience in the agri-food sector, research, training, technology transfer and European cooperation. The partnership involves 13 organizations from different European countries and combines the expertise of VET providers, universities, certification bodies, companies, research centres and labour market actors.
